How the U.S.A Falls Short
I’ve been writing abstracts of environmental websites for a man in the U.K. for one of my freelance writing gigs. It amazes me how far behind the U.S. is with environmental actions. Recycling is a booming industry in the U.K. and here it’s still a foreign concept in some communities. In Ashtabula County, Ohio (where I grew up), we had to take it upon ourselves to take our paper and plastics to the recycling center in town (and, according to inside sources, that place was seen throwing recyclables in with regular trash!).
In Toronto, green living is nothing new. The city offers bike lanes on major roads and all trash receptacles are divided into paper, plastic or waste.
In other countries, recycling isn’t an afterthought and biking isn’t relegated to the sidewalks. I’ll obviously look further into this. I just wanted to get this issue out in the open.
