“Nature Here, Come Get Your Nature Here!”
When I traveled from Cleveland to my college in Upstate New York, I’d always pass a sign on the highway that said, “Natural Area, Next 2 Mi.”
I’d think, “If that patch is the natural area, then what is everything else?” It’s not like that was a grove of wildflowers in the middle of a concrete jungle–it was on the side of a rural highway.
This goes along the same lines as my post on the meaning of “the environment.” I love how humans attempt to relegate nature, to control it. We own the highways and nature is corralled to the “natural area.”
I just thought this was funny.
