Fall Activities for the Family: Apple Picking

Published by soja at 10:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Enjoy the outdoors before winter arrives by engaging in some autumn activities. Apple picking can be fun for the family–pack up the kids, head to an organic orchard, and pick the best apples to make pies with or to eat on the spot. Some cities celebrate autumn by hosting apple festivals. Ithaca, NY, hosts a wonderful apple fest where you can try all sorts of different apples. Forget McIntosh and boring Gala, apple farms and festivals will have many types for you to try.

And, while you’re there, make sure you get your hands on some locally-made, organic apple cider. Cider is especially good served hot with some cloves.

Dad and I picked some green/yellowish apples out in the fields/woods the other day, to make a pie. One was Granny Smith; the other kind, I’m not sure about. Boy, are they some unattractive apples, because they’re wild and don’t get sprayed with anything. But they taste just as good as anything else. We had some red apples, too, but we didn’t pick them early enough and they’re all gone now.

Apples are the thing lately. Had some homemade applesauce at my grandma’s yesterday, and some (not homemade, I don’t think) cider.

I love autumn. Definitely the best season. And it’s beautiful outside right now.
